PRE-ROLLS VS HASH-INFUSED ROLLS: WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?
Both come rolled. Both are ready to burn. Both save you from your own rolling skills.
But they're not the same thing, and the difference shows up the second you spark one. Here's what's inside each, how they burn, and how to pace them.
WHAT IS A PRE-ROLL?
A pre-roll is flower that's been ground and rolled into a paper for you. That's it. No grinder, no papers, no crooked first attempt. Open the pack, spark it, go.
Most pre-rolls have three parts:
- The flower. Ground up and packed into the cone.
- The paper. Usually a cone shape, wider at the end you light.
- The tip or crutch. The stiff bit at the mouth end. It keeps the roll open and your fingers off the cherry.
A good pre-roll is packed evenly. Too loose and it burns fast and runs. Too tight and you're working for every pull.
Our 3-in-1 pre-roll pack is the classic move: exotic THCA flower, already rolled, no homework.
WHAT IS A HASH-INFUSED ROLL?
It's a pre-roll that got an upgrade. Flower plus hash.
Hash is concentrated resin from the plant: the sticky crystals, called trichomes, collected and pressed together. It's denser and stickier than flower. When it goes into a roll, it gets mixed in with the flower or layered through it, depending on how the maker builds it.
So an infused roll is still flower at heart, with a concentrated kicker blended in. Our Hash Rolls are exactly that: exotic flower kicked up with hash, two to a pack, zero rolling required.
HOW DO THEY BURN DIFFERENTLY?
This is where you'll notice it.
- Slower burn. Hash is dense and resinous, so infused rolls usually burn slower than straight flower.
- Thicker smoke. More resin means a richer, heavier-feeling pull.
- More stickiness. You might see oil spots on the paper. That's the hash doing its thing, not a defect.
- Relights happen. Dense rolls can go out if you leave them sitting. Give it a quick relight, rotating it so it burns even.
A plain pre-roll is lighter and quicker. It's the easy session. An infused roll asks you to slow down a little.
HOW SHOULD I PACE EACH ONE?
Same house rules for both, with one twist for infused.
- Start small. A couple of pulls, then set it down. You can always have more later.
- Pass it or park it. Pre-rolls are built to share. Hash rolls especially.
- Infused means slower. Take your time between pulls. That's what the slower burn is telling you anyway.
- Use what you need, save the rest. A half-smoked roll can be snuffed out and saved. Tap it out gently, let it cool, and keep it in its tube.
HOW DO I LIGHT ONE RIGHT?
Small trick, big difference.
- Flame under the tip, not in it. Hold it just below the end.
- Rotate as you go. Turn the roll so the whole edge catches evenly.
- Gentle pull. Easy draw to get the cherry going.
That even start keeps it from canoeing, which is when one side burns way faster than the other. If it starts to run anyway, a little lick of flame on the slow side evens it out.
HOW DO I STORE PRE-ROLLS?
Sealed, cool, dark and dry. Keep them in the tube or pack they came in. Heat and sunlight dry them out, and humidity makes them soft and hard to light. Same rules as a jar of flower, which we break down in How to Store Flower. Out of reach of kids and pets, always.
WHICH ONE IS FOR ME?
Want the easy, classic session? Pre-roll. Want a slower burn and a richer pull? Hash-infused roll. Not sure? Grab one of each and see which way your night leans.
