HEMP DRINKS 101: CANS, BOTTLES AND POUCHES
Drinks look simple. Crack, sip, done. But the label on a drink plays by its own rules, and the container is half the message.
Here's how to read a hemp drink like you've been doing it for years.
WHAT DOES THE MG ON A DRINK MEAN?
It's the amount of cannabinoid in that container, usually Delta-9 THC, in milligrams. The key question is always the same: per what?
- Per container. The whole can, bottle or pouch.
- Per serving. A slice of the container, like 4 ounces out of 12.
A small single-serve can usually lists one number, because the can is the serving. A big bottle might list a per-container number and a per-serving number. If the label says "servings per container: 4," that bottle was built to be split four ways.
Read both lines before you crack it. That's the whole trick.
WHY DO SOME LIDS RESEAL?
Because the container is telling you something. A resealable lid means "not all at once."
Take OCHO XS. It's 100mg of Delta-9 juice in a bottle with a lid that screws back on. That's not a one-gulp drink. It's built for more than one session: pour a little, cap it, put it back in the fridge, come back another time.
Compare that to the Dope Daiquiri 8oz pouch: 10mg of Delta-9 in 8 ready-to-drink ounces. Single serve. Rip it, pour it over ice, done.
Same category. Totally different game plan. The packaging is the hint.
SHOULD I SIP IT OR MIX IT?
Both work. Your call.
Sip it straight. Cold is the move. Pour a small glass, not the whole bottle. Keep the rest sealed and chilled.
Mix it. Hemp drinks play nice with soda, sparkling water, lemonade or your go-to mocktail base. Mixing stretches the flavor and makes it easier to keep a slow pace. Just remember, you're adding volume, not adding or removing mg. The mg you poured is the mg in the glass.
Either way, pour first, then sip. Drinking straight from a multi-serve bottle is how people lose count.
HOW DO I PACE A DRINK?
This is the part that matters.
- Follow the serving on the label. That's your starting line.
- Start small. You can always have more later. You can't un-drink it.
- Give it time before round two. Let the evening play out before you reach for a refill.
- Know your total. If you pour from a 100mg bottle, keep track of roughly how much you've poured.
- Keep water around. A drink you're sipping slowly is easier to pace next to a regular one.
Pacing isn't about being boring. It's about still being the one telling stories at the end of the night.
HOW DO I STORE AN OPENED DRINK?
Cap it tight and keep it cold. The label wins: if it says "refrigerate after opening" or gives a timeline, follow it. Keep it in the original bottle so the label and batch code stay with it, and keep it where kids and pets can't get it. A hemp drink can look exactly like a regular juice in the fridge, so put it somewhere that makes that obvious.
WHAT ABOUT THE BIG JUGS?
Different animal. Our half-gallon Dope Daiquiri jugs are concentrate for slush machines, not something you pour and drink. We wrote a whole guide on that: How to Run a Slush Machine.
Check what's cold right now in drinks, or go straight to THC drinks. Every batch has its lab report in the COA library.
QUICK HITS
Is the mg on a drink per can or per serving?
Check the label. Single-serve cans usually list one number. Bigger bottles often list both, plus how many servings are inside.
Why does OCHO XS have a resealable lid?
Because one bottle is meant for more than one session. Pour some, cap it, save the rest.
Can I mix a hemp drink with soda?
Yep. Mixing changes the volume, not the mg. Whatever you poured is what's in the glass.
How long does an opened bottle last?
Follow the label. Keep it capped and cold, and finish it within the time the label gives you.
